A 46 yr old male, history of pain in abdomen and weight loss of 15kgs over eight month period.

Age:
46
Sex:
male
Note:
USG showed stones in the gall bladder, and moderate thickening of the wall of the ascending and transverse colon. Barium enema showed mass in the transverse colon. Right hemicolectomy was done.

Terminal ileum was 24cms long; unremarkable. Caecum and proximal colon over 9cm in length showed normal mucosa, the distal to the normal mucosa. The Distal to this, the ascending and transverse colon of a length of 19 cms was carpeted with innumerable filiform polyps. There were mucosal ulcerations in between the polyps. The filiform polyps ranged in size from 0.2 cm to 2 cms long.

The distal 6cm of the colon showed normal mucosa and the wall.

There were multiple mesenteric nodes, the largest measured 2.5 cms in diameter.

Two sections- one from the polypoidal colonic mucosa and one from the terminal ileum are kept. (4B1, 4B2).
