The slide in the photograph is unsatisfactory for the identification of malarial parasites. As per instructions by WHO the slide should contain two smears. One thick and one thin smear. Freshly diluted and filtered Giemsa's stain should be used to stain the slide after fixation of the thin blood smear in methanol. The staining time varies and approx. 30 to 45 mins. wash and air dry. Spot the Malarial parasites in the thick smear and identify them in the thin smear. The one in the photograph is very badly stained with lot of Romanowsky stain deposits. It is not suitable for spotting and identification of malarial parasites.
