78-year-old female with lower eyelid pigmented lesion.
Procedure: Excisional biopsy.
Gross: The specimen consists of a piece of resected lower eyelid with a pigmented tumor measuring 0.8 x 0.7 cm. in size. Resection margins are grossly uninvolved.
Micro: Sections through the pigmented eyelid lesion show proliferation of large lobules of basaloid cells with peripheral palisading nuclei that project into the reticular dermis. The tumor lobules have associated mucinous degeneration surrounding the tumor nodules. There are patchy depositions of melanophages. Artifactual retractional cleft formation and extensive deposition of melanin pigments are also noted. The inked resection margins are negative for lesion involvement. H & E stain.
