74-year-old male with end-stage renal disease, hx of CAD with stenting in LAD, and gangrenous toes.
Procedure: BKA.
Micro: Peripheral arteries of lower leg (anterior tibial artery, peroneal artery, and posterior tibial artery) show extensive medial calcification, areas of ossification, intimal fibrosis, atherosclerotic plaques, up to 90% of luminal stenosis, and focal intraluminal thrombus formation. Osteoblasts and occasional multinucleated osteoclasts are present in the metaplastic bony tissue. H & E stain
