Accidental fish choking in an adolescent fisherman
A 15 years old boy was fishing in a river when out of the hook suddenly a fish penetrated his throat blocking the larynx and rapidly asphyxiating the victim

I am aware of a similar case at the coroner's office here in Stark County, Ohio. An adolescent boy was fishing with his Dad, and caught a small fish (bluegill). The Dad was joking around and said to the boy, "This one is too small to take home and cook, I'll just eat it now". He dangled the fish over his mouth as if to swallow it, and the fish slipped out of his grasp and lodged in his airway in an almost identical fashion to your case. The son and father tried to dislodge the fish, but because of the "backward" spines on the fins, the fish was completely trapped in the airway and only caused more trauma and bleeding when the attempt to dislodge it was made. The Dad died in front of his son before paramedics arrived. Truly tragic.
My teacher once told us a case like that and even showed us the photos. It was in Burma. It happened when he was getting ready for another catch, with the caught fish in his mouth for a while and the fish struggled, making his way down and blocking the larynx,..A tragedy indeed.,

This looks like one of the freak accidents, , sounds unbeliveable but the pics confirm the story.

The boy was unhooking the fish with both hands when the slippery fish jumped into his mouth and choked him.
There several witnesses at the scene at the moment of the tragedy.
Unfortunetly, no medically oriented person was present.
criminal possibility should be investigated..as this fish is so big to enter the mouth..and the victim is 15 yrs old ,and he could pulled it out immediatly.
I've heard about something like that before to happen with small fish .. this one is really large to pass all the way through his mouth and oropharynx to stuck in the child larynx .. just weird ..

I've never heard of such a thing. The gross photographs illustrate the case perfectly. Do I understand correctly that the fisherman had removed the hook when the fish jumped into his mouth?

This is the first case of choking with a catched fresh fish right out of the hook!!!
Have anybody seen such a case before?
