Shortness of breath.
43-year-old male with AIDS and pneumonitis.
Cytology: Cell block show numerous groups of vacuolated alveolar casts. H&E stain.

Nice case and nice stain.
Good case. I want to add that new name for human species of Pneumocystis is Pneumocystis jiroveci.
P. carinii is to be used only for rat species.

this type of parasite affect the lung in immunocompromized patients & the vacuolated or frothy alveolar casts in H&E raise the suspicion. to be confirmed by silver stain.
