Who turned out the lights?

This is not a challenging case. It is uploaded for teaching purposes, to see if I can upload a case correctly (this is my first case) and also to demonstrate some technical capabilities of panoramic software.

The patient is an 80 year old nursing home patient who woke up one morning asking "who turned out the lights?".
The clinical suspicion was "temporal arteritis" and a temporal artery biopsy was performed.

I dont have a slide scanner. ITs on my wish list. This image is a series of 8 images taken with my canon T2i digial camera. The images were run through canons panoramic software to merge them into one composite image. I did make one mistake and should have shot them all under manual exposure to keep the exposures constant. But, the resulting composite still works. The images were shot under the 10X objective. I would have liked to use 20X, but to encompass the entire vessel would have taken many many more images. I will add some high power pics tomorrow.

Thanks.
Temporal arteritis or Horton's disease.
target is internal elastic lamina or intima-media junction. Giant cells that phagocyte elastic fibers is hallmark

The technique is basically a poor mans way of making a scan of a slide. Basically, one takes multiple images of the digital slide (overlapping each image by about 20%) and merging the images together into one composite image. I believe this is how slide scanners work.

There are a variety of "stitching" software in the market. These programs are used by photographers to stitch together panoramas. I am familiary with photoshops stitching features and with canons software that ships with canon slr cameras. I believe there are free open source stitching progams on the web as well.

Although I had many temporal artery biopsy cases, most of them are negative. So far, I do not see a case like that. These giant cells are very diagnostic. By the way, I am very interested in giant cells, these cells can be found in both benign and malignant conditions, it is just amazing to me...
