Portions of the tissue contain large cells that are immunoreactive for placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP). In these areas, there is also an admixture of lymphocytes. Other areas are negative for PLAP, and although cellular, contain small cells with bland nuclei, possibly representing reactive meningothelial cells and/or glia.

Sections show a pilocytic glial neoplasm with sparse Rosenthal fibers and more frequent eosinophilic granular bodies.
The tumor is composed of numerous clefts lined by cells positive for the endothelial cell marker CD31, and large, foamy cells containing lipid stainable by oil-red-O.
The tumor present in the slides of this brain metastasis is identical histologically to the yolk sac component of the testicular neoplasm resected eight months ago.
