The brain tissue surrounding this metastatic tumor mass has acute neuronal necrosis. The malignant neoplasm has a spindle cell morphology and contains abundant brown pigment that is consistent with melanoma. HMB-45, S-100, and Fontana stains are supportive of this diagnosis.
