29-year-old female with PIH.

Gross: The placenta disc weighs 543 gm. and is serially sectioned. The cut surface reveals a focal maternal tan-white firm lesion measuring 2.5 cm. in greatest dimension. Representative sections are submitted.

Note:
Micro: Sections show preterm immature placenta parenchyma with focal maternal thrombosis and fibrin plaque. A few hyalinized villi are noted in the fibrin thrombi. H&E stain.
