32-year-old female with gestational age of 38 5/7 weeks, intrauterine fetal demise, and primary C-section.
Gross: The maternal side of disc has a tan-white maternal firm area measuring 13.5 x 3.5 cm. in size. The tan-white maternal area occupies about 1/5 of the placenta maternal floor surface. The placenta disc weighs 327 gms. and is serially sectioned. The cut surface reveals areas of transmural tan-white, firm lesions. The uninvolved placenta parenchyma exhibits meaty-tan, spongy, homogeneous placenta parenchyma with no gross evidence of intraparenchymal hemorrhage. Representative sections are submitted.
