Knee pathology
63-year-old female with left knee osteoarthritis.
X-ray exam: The exam demonstrates marked narrowing of the medical joint spece with sclerotic and lucent changes. Osteophytes are present bilaterally. Additional density present which suggests a loose body. There is a small-to-moderate suprapatellar joint effusion.

Note:
Gross: The specimen consists of multiple hemorrhagic, firm, bony tissue fragments measuring 2 to 8 cm. in greatest dimension, and aggregating to 14 x 9 x 2 cm. The grossly recognizable femoral condyles and tibial plateau show marked degenerative changes with irregular erosive articular surfaces [Gross Photos - (11-10-09) 008] and areas of eburnation [Gross Photos - (11-10-09) 003 & 006] measuring up to 3.5 cm. in greatest dimension. Two irregular cartilaginous loose bodies [Gross Photos - (11-10-09) 007] are also noted, and measuring 1.5 and 2 cm. in greatest dimension.
