40-year-old male with a solid 10 cm. mass in left lung. History of a long-term heavy smoker for 13 years.
Procedure: CT-guided fine needle biopsy.
Micro: Numerous tumor cells are noted.
60 -year-old male with left lung mass.
Procedure: CT guided needle biopsy.
Gross: The specimen consists of 2 tan cylindrical needle core biopsy tissue fragments measuring 1.5 and 1.7 cm.
Portions of the tissue contain large cells that are immunoreactive for placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP). In these areas, there is also an admixture of lymphocytes.
Sections show a pilocytic glial neoplasm with sparse Rosenthal fibers and more frequent eosinophilic granular bodies.
