Placenta pathology
39 weeks of gestational age.
Procedure: Repeat C-section.
Gross: The umbilical cord measures 18 cm. in length with a diameter of 1 cm.
29-year-old female with PIH.
Gross: The placenta disc weighs 543 gm. and is serially sectioned. The cut surface reveals a focal maternal tan-white firm lesion measuring 2.5 cm.
32-year-old female with gestational age of 38 5/7 weeks, intrauterine fetal demise, and primary C-section.
Gross: The maternal side of disc has a tan-white maternal firm area measuring 13.5 x 3.5 c
35-year-old female with active bleeding and DIC after repeat C-section.
Procedure: Exploratory laparotomy and supracervical hysterectomy.
Micro: Sections through the dilated gravid uterine wall
20-year-old female with molar pregnancy.
Gross: The specimen consists of a 10 x 8 x 6 cm. aggregation of hemorrhagic irregular tissue fragments and clotted blood weighing 440 gm.
30-year-old female with IUP @ 33 2/7 wks., PIH, S/P primary C-section.
Procedure: NSVD.
Gross: A placenta disc with attached ruptured fetal membrane and umbilical cord.
