Procedure: Left colon biopsy.
Micro: Sections show benign colon mucosa with mild nonspecific chronic inflammation.
59-year-old male with hematochezia. Colon biopsy is performed and identified multiple mucosal and submucosal white spots.
46-year-old male with right colon (cecal) mass.
Procedure: Partial right colectomy.
Gross: The specimen consists of a resected cecum measuring 9 cm. in length with a maximal diameter of 6 cm.
Microscopic Photo. A tubular adenoma with proliferation of neoplastic tubules.
Microscopic Photo. Colon polyp with proliferation of supercicial hyperplastic crypts. The hyperplastic crypts are slightly dilated with serrated (saw tooth) or star-shaped appearance. H&E Stain.
Microscopic Photo. Rectal polyp biopsy showing proliferation of islands and sheets of monotonous cells in laminar propria. Surface denudation of colon mucosa is also noted. H&E Stain.
