Dr. Shriram Jakate is a Professor of Pathology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Director of Laboratory Services at Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) in Chicago. He directs a busy GI and liver pathology teaching program and provides diagnostic pathology services to over 30 adult and pediatric gastroenterologists, hepatologists and GI and liver surgeons at RUMC. About 100 liver transplants are performed at RUMC every year for last several years. He is well known for correlative and interpretive style of tissue diagnosis and nationally recognized for consultation via virtual microscopy and newly described conditions such as mastocytic enterocolitis, glycogenic hepatopathy and diffuse cirrhosis-like variant of hepatocellular carcinoma. His interests include evaluation of subtle morphological changes in the colon and duodenum in intractable diarrhea, use of jumbo biopsy forceps in recovery of tissue for diagnoses of gastrointestinal submucosal masses and surveillance of ulcerative colitis and Barrett's esophagus.
